Richard Kwan has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) methods for over 12 years with a graduate degree from Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM). Along with founding the Simple Cures, Richard is also currently a Senior Advisor lecturing extensively at Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Academy (AIMA).

As an experienced practitioner of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Nutritional Therapy, Tuina Massage, Medical QiGong and TaiChi, Richard’s practice also integrates systems of Japanese Medicine, the Five Elements, Alchemy, and Tung & Tan Style Acupuncture; bringing extensive experience in chronic pain management, infertility and gynecological support, stress, anxiety, insomnia, digestive disorders, skin irritation, allergies, and asthma.

Steve Shiran Li

Steve Li is an experienced Acupuncturist, Osteopathic Manual Therapist, and the Owner of Simple Cures Integrative Medicine Clinic. With a passion for helping people attain balance in their life, Steve utilizes a variety of modalities such as Tung’s Acupuncture, 5-element needling and Osteopathic Manual Therapy to help his patients relieve their ailments and achieve their ideal state of health.

Steve takes a highly patient-focused approach that springs from his recognition of respecting and understanding the differences of every patient’s body and mental state. Steve’s treatment is aimed at helping patients make lasting improvements during the time he spends with them. His practice focuses on a variety of issues including: pain management, sports injury, repetitive stress injury, allergies and digestive disorders, musculoskeletal impediments and anxiety management. In the past three years, he has had success in treating over 500 cases of knee pain, shoulder pain, and back pain.

Steve originally graduated from the University of Toronto with the intention of pursuing law and business, however, his interest and passion eventually led him to healthcare. During his exploration of the medical system, he saw a need for an alternative approach in dealing with pain.

When Steve is not treating his patients, he is engaged in the management of the Simple Cures Clinic and the Tzu Chi Clinic at Humber College. He takes great care in creating a better and more comfortable space for his patients and team.

Dr. Heejung Yang ND

Dr. Heejung (Heebee) Yang, Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.), graduated from the University of Connecticut majoring in Physiology & Neurobiology and minoring in Statistics. Her experience working in hospital and nursing home gave her a new direction to seek prevention of disease and illnesses rather than just treatment of symptoms as a way to help patients.

Dr. Yang, N.D., then went on to the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine to complete her honoured Master’s of Acupuncture and Doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine.

Her belief in leading a healthy lifestyle is closely tied with the natural environment and that a proper balance must be maintained to protect the body’s harmony; just as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes illness is a result of imbalance. Dr. Yang, N.D., has a special focus on family care, lifestyle management and weight loss, and cosmetic treatments. She customizes her plans with her passion to share knowledge and incorporate methods of TCM with modern-Western understanding of conditions and ailments.

Creating a safe and non-judgemental environment for her patients are very important to her so she can truly listen and understand their concerns and she enjoys working together as a team to help others achieve their goals.

Gilbert Lai

Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Gilbert Lai completed his Master’s degree of Science and obtained a bachelor degree in Food Science at the University of New Haven, Connecticut. Under the influence of his Chinese Medicine families, Gilbert decided to continue into acupuncture completing his degree at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM).

Gilbert uses a combination of Chinese and Japanese acupuncture in his treatments to achieve the best results with the fewest needles. The result is a virtually painless treatment and the highest level of comfort – even for patients who are afraid of needles. He also learns and follows Dr. Richard Tan’s acupuncture balance method for treating pain and chronic diseases.

He previously taught as a clinic instructor at TSTCM, and volunteered at People With AIDS and in the Dorothy Lay Hospice with cancer patients. Currently with his practice, he volunteers in the Asian Community AIDS Service (ACAS). He is known as a great practitioner and combines Acupuncture and Tuina Massage to help his patients regain balance.

Jaime Ho is Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner with a passion in caring for those in need. She uses techniques like Tung’s Acupuncture, YNSA (Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture), along with traditional 14 meridians, to help her patients to alleviate their health concerns.

Jaime received her Honours Bachelor Life Sciences Degree from McMaster University. Soon after, she decided to enroll in further education to become a TCM Practitioner. Since a young age, she has always have an interest in alternative healthcare and the human body. From volunteering in hospitals in Hong Kong to providing volunteering acupuncture treatments at Hospice in Etobicoke.

Jaime has special interests in gynaecological conditions like PMS and dysmenorrhea, fertility support, fatigue, stress and anxiety. She believes that the combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine together can relieve many medical conditions. Iliya Vukadinovic is a Registered Acupuncturist with a background in martial arts, which he began pursuing in 2015. Since graduating from Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine (AIM) Academy in 2018 with High Honours, he has been actively practicing at a busy downtown clinic where he has honed his patient assessment and manual skills.

With the bulk of his experience pertaining to pain management, injury recovery, and stress management, Iliya seeks to help patients understand the underlying pathological and physiological mechanisms at work in their conditions. Zoey is a Registered Acupuncturist in good standing with the CTCMPAO. Her passion for cultivating and restoring health started almost a decade ago. She completed her undergraduate studies in Engineering and worked as a Design Engineer until ultimately deciding to pursue her calling in healing. She has explored many topics related to physical rehabilitation, mental health, and spirituality. As someone who has firsthand dealt with persistent pain, her desire is to provide care that makes a difference.

Zoey’s treatment approach is rooted in a commitment to continuous learning focused on the integration of both the innate ancient wisdom of our bodies and modern science such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and psychology. This allows her to select and integrate principles that she has learnt and apply them accordingly, which typically combines manual therapy in all her treatments. She embodies a unique blend of gentleness and attentiveness while respecting the sacredness of your body. Her strengths lie in her intuition and sensitivity, as well as ability to think critically in identifying the root cause of dysfunctions.

She enjoys treating musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, chronic stress and fatigue, and women’s health.
